Chapter 3 - The 10:17 AM Executionđ„ CLICKBAIT TITLE: THE EXACT MINUTE HE SOLD ME OUT TO HIS MISTRESS WAS THE EXACT MINUTE I STOLE EVERYTHING HE LOVED!

Ten hours earlier.
The sun had barely cleared the high-rise office buildings downtown. While Daniel was supposedly at an "early morning executive breakfast," he was actually sliding out of the bed we had shared for a decade, whispering lies into Claireâs voicemail before sneaking into our kitchen.
I hadn't cried. Not a single tear fell. When you suspect a snake for eight months, you don't weep when it bitesâyou cut off its head.
At exactly 10:17 AM, my phone chimed on the marble island.
From: Arthur Sterling, Senior Partner, Sterling & Vance Law. Subject: Vanguard Holdings Acquisition / Closing Complete. Body: The buyout of Class-A voting shares is finalized. Total execution successful. All assets transferred to sole beneficial owner: E. Sterling-Vance (or simply, Emma).
I had spent three months secretly executing a hostile buyout of Danielâs family corporation. Using my own separate venture capital firmâbuilt entirely under a corporate veil he was too arrogant and inattentive to investigateâI had quietly bought out every single external shareholder, absorbed the companyâs mounting debt, and quietly acquired the majority voting blocks held by Daniel's estranged cousins.
Daniel thought Vanguard Holdings was his birthright.
In reality, for the past six weeks, the bank loans keeping his lifestyle afloat were underwritten by me. The penthouse mortgage? Paid by my accounts. The car he drove? Leased through my holding company.
Back in the private dining room, Daniel stared at the paper in my hand as if it were a venomous snake.
"What is that?" he choked out, his voice cracking slightly. "What did you do?"
"I bought you out, Daniel," I said, sliding the document across the pristine white tablecloth. It skidded past a basket of artisan rolls and stopped right in front of his trembling hands. "Every share. Every voting right. Every commercial property. Even the building this restaurant is sitting in."
Claire frowned, leaning over to glance at the paper. "What is she talking about, Daniel? Is this some kind of sick joke?"
Daniel didn't answer. He was reading the signature line.

His face turned the color of ash.
