Chapter 4 - THE QUEEN OF SAN PEDROThe mansion was completely silent.

The sky-blue balloons, white hydrangeas, and silk ribbons still decorated the grand ballroom, but they now looked like festive decorations abandoned inside a crime scene.

The live-stream camera was still recording, its blinking red light broadcasting to an audience of over five million concurrent viewers across Latin America. The comment section was moving at a blinding, hypnotic speed—thousands upon thousands of messages praising Valeria, calling her a genius, a queen, a living legend.

Valeria stood alone in the center of the room.

The paramedic team had already checked her vitals, confirming that despite the violent shove and the heavy stress, little Emiliano was healthy, strong, and kicking with boundless energy. They had urged her to go to the hospital for observation, but Valeria refused.

She had work to do.

Heavy footsteps echoed across the marble floor. Valeria didn't turn around; she already knew who it was.

Agent Elena Garza walked back into the ballroom, holding a thick, legal document bound in black leather. She looked at Valeria with a mixture of profound professional respect and personal awe.

“The transport is complete,” Agent Garza reported, walking up to Valeria. “Octavio, Leonor, and Rodrigo are locked in separate maximum-security holding cells at the federal penitentiary. Bail has been denied across the board. Because of the federal corruption charges and national security implications, they won't see a courtroom for at least twelve months.”

Valeria turned slowly, her hand resting comfortably on her rounded belly.

“And the corporate assets?” she asked, her voice calm and measured.

Agent Garza smiled, a rare, genuine expression breaking through her stern professional demeanor.

“According to Mexican federal law, whistleblowers who independently uncover, document, and legally transfer actionable proof of systemic corporate financial terrorism are entitled to a whistleblower bounty reward percentage of the total seized state-recovered assets.”

Agent Garza opened the black leather folder and handed it to Valeria.

“Once the final liquidation is processed next month, ten percent of four point two billion pesos will be legally transferred directly into your personal, independent account.”

Valeria looked down at the document. Four hundred and twenty million pesos.

More money than the Fuentes family had stolen in a decade.

“Furthermore,” Agent Garza added, her eyes twinkling, “since this mansion and all subsidiary real estate properties under Fuentes Construction were purchased using embezzled state infrastructure funds, the court has ordered an immediate asset freeze and forfeiture of the estate itself.”

Valeria raised an eyebrow. “Oh?”

“And since you are the primary legal witness, primary forensic auditor, and primary victim of domestic assault under aggravated circumstances... the federal judge has granted an immediate emergency occupancy order.” Agent Garza tapped the document. “This house, Mrs. Cortés, legally belongs to you now.”

Valeria looked around the soaring ceilings, the grand staircase, and the sprawling gardens visible through the massive glass windows. This was the house where she had been humiliated, insulted, and treated like a prisoner for six long years.

Now, it was her castle.

“Thank you, Agent Garza,” Valeria said softly.

“Thank you, Valeria,” the agent replied, giving her a respectful nod before turning to exit the ballroom. “Call me if you need any additional security details. Though, somehow, I think you can handle anything.”

As the heavy federal doors closed, leaving Valeria entirely alone in the massive, opulent estate, the front doors swung open once more.

This time, it wasn't the police.

It was a small group of people walking hesitantly through the shattered gates.

Valeria turned toward the entrance, and for the first time since the ordeal began, her stoic, unbreakable facade cracked. A genuine, warm smile broke across her face.

It was her mother, Elena Cortés, and her younger brother, Mateo.

Her mother dropped her handbag, her eyes wide with terror and disbelief as she looked around the ruined ballroom, before rushing across the floor and throwing her arms around Valeria.

“My God! My baby! My grandson!” her mother sobbed, burying her face in Valeria’s shoulder. “We saw it all on the news! Are you okay? Did they hurt you? What is happening?!”

Mateo stood behind them, staring at the destroyed gift tables and the federal seal stickers plastered on the main doors, his jaw hanging open.

“Valeria...” Mateo whispered, his voice trembling with awe. “Did you... did you just take down the entire Fuentes empire?”

Valeria pulled back gently, holding her mother’s hands, her eyes shining with unshed tears of triumph.

“No, Mateo,” Valeria said, her voice rich with power and quiet satisfaction. “I didn't just take them down. I reclaimed everything they stole from us.”

She looked down at her belly, where Emiliano gave one final, powerful kick, as if cheering for his mother.

“And we are just getting started.”
