Chapter 8 - THE REIGN OF VALERIA CORTÉSSix months later, the spring sun shone brightly over the manicured lawns of the Fuentes estate—now officially renamed Casa Cortés.

The federal asset seizure and whistleblower payout had been fully processed three weeks prior. Valeria Cortés was now officially recognized not only as one of the most successful independent forensic auditors in Latin America, but as a major philanthropist and corporate restructuring expert.
She stood on the grand marble balcony overlooking the lush gardens, wearing a tailored emerald-green silk dress that symbolized renewal, strength, and rebirth.
In her arms rested Emiliano, now six months old, laughing and reaching out with tiny, chubby fingers to catch the gentle breeze.
“Are you ready for the press conference, boss?”
Valeria turned around to see Mateo walking out onto the balcony, holding a tablet displaying live feeds from twenty different national and international news networks.
“Always,” Valeria smiled warmly.
“The new foundation offices in Monterrey are fully funded, your book on corporate transparency is already number one on the national bestseller list, and the federal prosecutor’s office has officially invited you to consult on three major state corruption investigations next month,” Mateo rattled off proudly, a grin spreading across his face.
Valeria adjusted Emiliano gently against her shoulder.
“Let them know we’ll take the cases,” Valeria said, her voice steady, calm, and filled with absolute power. “Corruption hides in the dark. It’s time we brought all of it into the light.”
Mateo nodded, giving her a respectful salute before heading back inside to manage the media floodgates.
Valeria turned back toward the horizon.
Down below, beyond the newly reinforced, gleaming security gates, a few reporters and fans stood outside, holding signs of support and cheering as they caught sight of her on the balcony.
Valeria didn't wave back with arrogance or cold detachment. She smiled—a genuine, radiant, unbreakable smile—and gently guided little Emiliano's tiny hand to wave to the world.
She had entered this mansion six years ago as a frightened, silenced woman walking into a gilded prison.
