Chapter 2 - Shadows in the Nursery

VIRAL TITLE: The DNA Test Came Back
And It Wasn’t Humanly Possible! đŸ§ŹđŸ˜±

Ethan brought Maya to his private penthouse in the city, far away from the mansion’s toxicity. He hired round-the-clock nurses, private guards, and top chefs to care for her. For two weeks, it felt like a dream. Maya’s color returned, her baby bumped grew healthily, and Ethan spent every night with his head resting against her belly, whispering promises to their unborn child.

Yet, Victoria’s parting words haunted Ethan’s sleep. “Loving a ghost.”

Late one night, while Maya was fast asleep, Ethan’s head of security, Marcus, entered the study. He placed a thick yellow envelope on the mahogany desk.

“Boss, we raided Victoria’s safe at the mansion,” Marcus whispered nervously. “We found Maya’s original medical files from the clinic she visited before she disappeared.”

Ethan opened the envelope. Inside were blood work results, psychiatric evaluations, and an ultrasound report dated six months prior.

His eyes scanned the lines, and his heart plummeted into a cold abyss.

MEDICAL FINDING: Subject Maya Lin exhibits severe hysterical pregnancy (Pseudocyesis). Uterine cavity is empty. Patient exhibits high-level psychological delusion following severe trauma.

“This
this is impossible,” Ethan stammered, his hand shaking. “I felt the baby kick! I saw the ultrasound!”

“Look at the bottom of the page, sir,” Marcus urged gently.

Ethan flipped to the back. Attached was a second medical report from an offshore clinic. The blood type listed for Maya didn’t match her official records. More disturbingly, the DNA panel showed that the woman currently sleeping in Ethan’s bed
shared 0% DNA with Maya Lin’s official family lineage.

Suddenly, the baby monitor on Ethan’s desk crackled to life.

Through the static, a raspy, unfamiliar voice echoed from Maya’s bedroom:

“He found the file, didn't he? Time to move to Phase Two.”
