The darkness was shattered by the sound of breaking glass.
Armed men in tactical gear burst through the penthouse balcony windows. Smoke grenades detonated, filling the room with blinding white chemicals. Ethan coughed violently, firing two shots toward the intruders, but a heavy blow caught him across the temple, knocking him to the floor.
Through his blurring vision, he saw Victoria step through the shattered glass, wearing a dark raincoat, holding an umbrella.
âYou played a good game, Iris,â Victoria chuckled maliciously as her men grabbed the pregnant twin. âPlastic surgery? Impressive. But you forgot one thing: I own the doctors who did your face.â
âTouch me and Ethanâs baby dies with me!â Iris screamed, fighting against the guards.
âOh, darling,â Victoria purred, pulling a syringe from her pocket. âI donât need the baby anymore. I just needed Ethan to sign over the family trustâwhich he did three days ago, thinking he was securing your financial future.â
Ethan gasped on the carpet, struggling to stay conscious. âVictoria⊠donâtâŠâ
âGoodnight, Ethan,â Victoria smirked. âBy morning, youâll both be buried in the same rose garden as dear, sweet Maya.â
Two hours later, Ethan woke up strapped to a wooden chair in the damp, moldy basement of the old mansion. Next to him, Iris was tied up, her face pale, her breathing shallow as labor contractions suddenly began to hit her.
âEthanâŠâ Iris groaned, sweat pouring down her forehead. âThe baby⊠itâs comingâŠâ
âHang on, Iris!â Ethan strained against his leather bindings, the ropes cutting into his wrists. âHelp! Someone help!â
The heavy iron door swung open. Victoria walked in holding a shovel and a lit lantern. Behind her were three armed henchmen.
âNo one can hear you down here, Ethan,â Victoria said smoothly. âThis room was built during the war. Soundproof. Perfect for final goodbyes.â
âWhy?â Ethan wept. âMy father loved you! I gave you everything!â

Victoriaâs calm demeanor shattered, replaced by an ugly, twisted rage. âYour father used me! He made me a glorified nanny while leaving 90% of his empire to youâthe son of his late wife! I devoted twenty years of my life to this family, and I will not let a low-class maid and her bastard child take what is mine!â
She gestured to her men. âStart digging.â
