Chapter 10 - The Mastermind Behind the Rescue

Three weeks later, the sun shone brightly over Daniel’s backyard. The nightmare was finally over. Rebecca and her accomplice were locked away, facing federal fraud and first-degree murder charges.

Daniel sat on the porch, watching Noah run across the grass, kicking a soccer ball. Emily walked out, holding two mugs of hot tea, her smile genuine and warm for the first time in years.

"I still can't believe how brave Noah was," Daniel said, taking a sip of tea and looking at his daughter. "If he hadn't handed me that drive..."

Emily smiled softly, looking at her son. "Do you know why he knew where to hide it, Dad?"

"Why?"

"Because three days before the wedding, when I realized Rebecca was tapping your phone and going through your financial records, I knew she was dangerous," Emily said. "I gave Noah the drive and made it a game. I told him: 'This is a secret key. If Mommy ever falls asleep and can't wake up, give it to Grandpa.'"

Daniel stared at his daughter in awe. "You planned for the worst."

"I knew she was evil, Dad. I just didn't realize how far she'd go," Emily said, sitting beside him and resting her head on his shoulder. "Mom was watching over us through that little boy."

Noah ran up to the porch, his face flushed red, holding a yellow wildflower he had just picked from the yard. He offered it to Daniel with a big, toothy grin.

"For you, Grandpa," Noah chirped. "No more secrets."
