Chapter 6 - The Hidden Cabin

Three police cruisers tore through the highway, sirens screaming against the darkening twilight sky. Daniel sat in the front passenger seat of Detective Jenkins' car, his heart hammering against his ribs.

The coordinates led deep into the dense woodland twenty miles north of the city. Down a hidden dirt road obscured by overgrown pine trees stood an abandoned wooden cabin.

"Stay in the vehicle, Mr. Miller," Jenkins ordered, unholstering her weapon as backup units surrounded the perimeter.

"Not a chance," Daniel muttered, jumping out right behind them.

The officers kicked open the front door. "Police! Nobody move!"

The cabin was dark, smelling of damp wood and chemical sedatives. In the center of the room, tied to a wooden chair, was Emily. Her head was slumped forward, a purple bruise swelling along her jawline.

"Emily!" Daniel sprinted past the officers, dropping to his knees beside his daughter. He frantically cut the zip-ties binding her wrists. "Emily, wake up! Please, baby, wake up!"
