CHAPTER 5 — The Secret File That Could Destroy Everything

That evening, Olivia sat alone in her office long after everyone had gone home.
The city glittered beneath her windows.
But she wasn't celebrating.
On her desk lay a black folder marked:
INTERNAL AUDIT — ETHAN CRAWFORD.
Inside were years of hidden debts.
Fake performance reports.
Illegal vendor payments.
Suspicious transfers.
And one signature that appeared again and again.
Ethan's.
Her legal team had been clear.
"With this evidence, he could go to prison."
Eleanor stood near the window.
"He deserves consequences."
Olivia said nothing.
Eleanor turned.
"Do not confuse mercy with weakness."
Olivia looked down at the file.
"I know."
"But if I destroy him completely, what does that make me?"
Eleanor's voice softened.
"Human."
Before Olivia could respond, her assistant rushed in.
"Madam Chairwoman..."
"There's someone downstairs demanding to see you."
Olivia frowned.
"Who?"
The assistant hesitated.
"Your ex-mother-in-law."
The elevator doors opened five minutes later.
Margaret Crawford stormed into the office clutching a fake pearl handbag.
She looked older now.
Angrier.
More desperate.
"You evil woman!" Margaret shouted.
"You stole my son's company!"
Olivia remained calm.
"No, Margaret."
"I bought it."
Margaret slammed her handbag onto the desk.
"You were nothing when he married you!"
"My son made you!"
Olivia's expression didn't change.
"Your son made paperwork."
"I made the company survive."
Margaret pointed a shaking finger at her.
"If Ethan goes to prison, it will be your fault."
Olivia slowly stood.
"No."
"If Ethan goes to prison, it will be because he broke the law."
For a moment, Margaret's rage cracked.
Her lips trembled.
"He was always afraid."
Olivia paused.
That was not what she expected.
Margaret sank into a chair.
"His father called him useless."
"Every day."
"He said Ethan would never build anything on his own."
"So Ethan became obsessed with proving him wrong."
Olivia stared at her.
"And you let him hurt everyone around him."
Margaret looked away.
"I thought ambition was better than weakness."
Then she whispered something that changed everything.
"There's one file you haven't found."
Olivia's breath caught.
"What file?"
Margaret's face turned pale.
"The blue file."
Eleanor stepped forward sharply.
"How do you know about that?"
Margaret looked terrified now.
"Because Ethan didn't start the fraud."
"Someone taught him."
Olivia's heart began pounding.
"Who?"
Margaret looked directly at Eleanor.
"Ask her."
The office went silent.
Slowly...
Olivia turned toward the woman who had rescued her.
The woman who had trained her.
The woman who knew everything about her father.
Eleanor's face had gone completely still.
Olivia whispered:
"What is the blue file?"
Eleanor did not answer.

And in that silence...
Olivia realized the biggest betrayal might not have come from her ex-husband at all.
