CHAPTER 6 — The Woman Who Lied First

"Tell me the truth."

Olivia's voice was quiet.

That made it more dangerous.

Eleanor stood by the window, her silver hair glowing under the city lights.

For two years, Olivia had seen her as a mentor.

A protector.

Almost family.

Now...

She looked like a stranger.

Margaret wiped tears from her face.

"Your father didn't just leave you a company."

"He left evidence."

Eleanor turned sharply.

"Enough."

Olivia stepped between them.

"No."

"I want to hear it."

Margaret reached into her handbag and pulled out an old USB drive.

"My husband kept a copy."

"He was afraid of Blackwood."

Eleanor's eyes narrowed.

"You have no idea what you're doing."

Olivia took the USB.

Her hands were steady.

Her heart was not.

On the screen, one video file appeared.

Dated twenty years earlier.

Olivia clicked play.

Her father's face filled the monitor.

He looked tired.

Terrified.

But alive.

"If you're watching this, Olivia..."

"...then I failed to protect you."

Olivia covered her mouth.

Her father continued.

"Blackwood Global was never meant to become an empire."

"It was built to expose one."

"Eleanor and I discovered that powerful investors were using technology contracts to launder money through government projects."

"We gathered proof."

"We planned to go public."

"Then Eleanor changed."

Olivia slowly turned toward Eleanor.

The old woman didn't move.

On the video, her father continued.

"She said justice was too risky."

"She wanted control."

"She wanted the company."

"She wanted silence."

Tears rolled down Olivia's face.

"No..."

Her father leaned closer to the camera.

"If she ever comes for you..."

"Do not trust the woman who arrives after your worst day."

The video ended.

The room became painfully silent.

Eleanor finally spoke.

"I protected you."

Olivia shook her head.

"You used me."

"I prepared you."

"For what?"

Eleanor's voice turned cold.

"To take Crawford."

"To merge it into Blackwood."

"To complete what your father was too weak to do."

Olivia stared at her.

"My father wanted justice."

"You wanted power."

Eleanor smiled sadly.

"Power is the only justice that lasts."

At that moment, Olivia understood.

Eleanor had not saved her from Ethan.

She had waited until Ethan broke her...

So Olivia would be angry enough to help build an empire.

But Eleanor had made one mistake.

She had trained Olivia too well.

Olivia picked up the black audit folder.

Then the blue file.

Then her father's video.

She looked at Ethan's mother.

"Margaret."

"Call every board member."

Eleanor's smile disappeared.

Olivia turned back to her mentor.

"Two years ago, I came back to buy my husband's company."

"But tomorrow..."

"I'm taking yours."

The next morning, Blackwood Global's emergency board meeting began at 8:00 a.m.

At 8:07...

Olivia walked in.

At 8:09...

The blue file appeared on every screen.

At 8:12...

Eleanor Blackwood was removed as CEO.

And by noon...

The world learned the truth.

Olivia did not become powerful because someone gave her an empire.

May you like

She became powerful because every person who betrayed her...

Accidentally taught her how to win.
