CHAPTER 7 — The Final Board Meeting That Changed Everything

The world's financial media called it...

"The most shocking corporate collapse of the decade."

News helicopters circled above Blackwood Global headquarters.

Television crews crowded the entrance.

Reporters shouted questions at every executive walking inside.

No one had expected an emergency board meeting only hours after Eleanor Blackwood's removal.

No one knew...

Olivia had one final move.

The boardroom was silent.

Twenty-four directors sat around the enormous walnut table.

Lawyers lined the walls.

Federal investigators occupied the back row.

Eleanor entered wearing the same elegant black suit she had worn for years.

She still carried herself like the owner.

She still believed she could win.

When she saw Olivia sitting in the Chairwoman's seat...

She smiled.

"You've made a mistake."

Olivia calmly folded her hands.

"No."

"I finally stopped making them."

The lead attorney stood.

"This meeting is now in session."

A massive screen illuminated the room.

PROJECT PHOENIX.

The words meant nothing to most of the directors.

But Eleanor's face lost all color.

Olivia noticed immediately.

"You recognize the name."

Eleanor said nothing.

Another document appeared.

Bank records.

Offshore accounts.

Shell corporations.

Confidential government contracts.

Billions of dollars had moved through dozens of countries over twenty years.

Every transaction led back to one person.

Eleanor Blackwood.

One director stood abruptly.

"This can't be real."

The federal investigator calmly slid authenticated copies across the table.

"It is."

Silence.

Then...

Olivia pressed one final button.

Her father's face appeared once again on the giant screen.

But this wasn't the same recording.

It was another video.

One nobody had ever seen.

"If this recording is being played..."

"...then Eleanor refused to tell the truth."

The room became perfectly still.

Her father smiled sadly.

"Eleanor..."

"You once told me that money could buy loyalty."

"You were wrong."

"It only rents it."

He held up a sealed envelope.

"Everything you stole..."

"I already gave back."

The recording ended.

Everyone looked confused.

"What does that mean?" one director whispered.

Olivia slowly reached beneath the table.

She placed a thick envelope in front of every board member.

Inside...

The original ownership certificates.

Her father had quietly transferred control of Blackwood Global into an independent family trust decades earlier.

Eleanor had never truly owned the company.

She had only managed it.

Every decision she had made...

Every empire she had built...

Had legally belonged to Olivia's family all along.

Eleanor's hands began shaking.

"No..."

"That's impossible."

Olivia looked into her eyes.

"My father knew one day you would choose power over friendship."

"So he made sure you could never steal his legacy."

For the first time in thirty years...

Eleanor cried.

Not because she had lost.

Because she realized...

She had never actually won.

Federal agents stepped forward.

"Eleanor Blackwood..."

"We have a warrant for your arrest."

She didn't resist.

She simply looked at Olivia.

"I made you."

Olivia slowly stood.

"No."

"You created someone who trusted the wrong people."

"My father created the woman standing before you."

As Eleanor was escorted toward the door...

She suddenly stopped.

Without turning around, she spoke one last sentence.

"You still haven't found the last secret."

Olivia frowned.

"What secret?"

Eleanor smiled faintly.

"Ask Ethan..."

"...why he chose you in the first place."

The doors closed.

The room fell silent.

Olivia felt an unfamiliar chill.

For twelve years...

She had believed Ethan married her for love.

Then she believed he married her for convenience.

But what if...

Neither had been true?

That evening...

Olivia drove alone to the small apartment where Ethan had been living since losing everything.

When he opened the door...

He looked exhausted.

Before he could speak...

Olivia placed one photograph on the table.

It showed Ethan standing beside her father...

Twenty-three years earlier.

Ethan's face turned completely white.

"You..."

"...where did you get that?"

Olivia's voice was barely above a whisper.

"Were you really my husband by chance..."

"...or did someone send you into my life from the very beginning?"

Ethan slowly closed his eyes.

After several long seconds...

He whispered the words Olivia feared most.

"I've lied to you..."

May you like

"...since the day we first met."
