Chapter 3: The Woman He Threw Away

Daniel arrived at the hospice with panic in his chest and the divorce papers still in his car.
But when he reached Emma’s room, her bed was empty.
A nurse stopped him at the door.
“Mr. Carter?”
“Yes. Where is my wife?”
The nurse looked at him sadly.
“She left one hour ago.”
Daniel froze.
“Left? She can barely stand.”
The nurse handed him a small folded note.
Emma’s handwriting was weak but clear.
“Don’t look for me because you feel guilty. Look for me only if you finally remember how to love.”
Daniel’s legs nearly gave out.
For seven years, Emma had been beside him.
And now, when he finally wanted to hold her…
She was gone.
Then his phone rang.
It was his lawyer.
“Daniel… there’s something you need to know. Emma changed her will this morning.”
Daniel’s voice cracked.
“What did she leave me?”
The lawyer was silent for a moment.
“Nothing.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
Then the lawyer added,
“She left everything to a child named Noah.”
Daniel’s heart stopped.
“Noah? Who is Noah?”
The lawyer lowered his voice.

“According to the documents…”
“He is your son.”
