Chapter 8: The Billion-Dollar Secret

The next morning, Daniel unlocked the private vault exactly as Emma had instructed.

He expected photographs.

Perhaps old memories.

Instead...

The steel door revealed dozens of neatly organized files.

Hard drives.

Legal documents.

And one thick folder labeled:

"For Noah's 18th Birthday."

Confused, Daniel opened the first document.

His breathing stopped.

It wasn't Emma's financial records.

It was an investigation spanning nearly ten years.

Every page documented the same thing.

A powerful billionaire named Victor Ashford had been searching for one missing child across the country.

Reward offered:

$500 million.

Daniel frowned.

Then he reached the final page.

Attached was an old newspaper clipping showing a toddler who had disappeared during a hospital fire six years earlier.

Below the photograph...

Was Noah.

The same eyes.

The same birthmark behind his left ear.

The DNA comparison attached underneath read:

Probability of biological relationship: 99.9998%.

Daniel staggered backward.

Noah wasn't an abandoned orphan.

He was the missing heir to one of America's richest families.

Emma had discovered the truth years ago.

But instead of accepting the enormous reward...

She had hidden Noah.

Protected him.

Raised him as her own son because she feared the powerful Ashford family cared more about inheritance than about the frightened little boy who only wanted a mother.

Just then...

Daniel's phone rang.

An unknown number.

He answered cautiously.

A calm male voice spoke only one sentence.

"We know you opened Emma's vault."

Daniel's heart pounded.

Then the voice continued.

"Mr. Carter..."

"...bring the boy to us within 48 hours."

May you like

"If you don't..."

"You'll die the same way Emma was supposed to."
