CHAPTER 2 – The Marriage No One Was Supposed to Discover

Gasps swept through the ballroom.
Reporters instinctively raised their cameras.
Nathan looked at Sophia, expecting her to laugh.
Instead...
She couldn't move.
Her hands were shaking so violently that the diamond bracelet around her wrist rattled.
"Nathan..." she whispered.
"I can explain."
The elderly woman slowly opened the weathered folder.
Inside were official documents, photographs, and a faded marriage certificate bearing Sophia's old name.
"This wedding should never happen."
Nathan grabbed the certificate.
His smile disappeared.
The signature...
The date...
Even Sophia's photograph.
Everything looked authentic.
"This has to be fake," Nathan muttered.
"It isn't."
The old woman removed another photograph.
It showed a much younger Sophia standing beside a smiling man in military uniform.
They were wearing wedding rings.
Nathan stared at Sophia in disbelief.
"You told me you'd never been married."
Tears rolled down Sophia's face.
"I thought he was dead."
The room erupted into whispers.
But the old woman shook her head.
"No."
"He survived."
Nathan felt the world spinning around him.
"If he's alive..."
"...where is he?"
The woman pointed toward the ballroom entrance.
"Right behind you."
Nathan turned slowly.
A tall man wearing a dark suit stood quietly at the doorway.
A long scar crossed the left side of his face.
His eyes never left Sophia.
The guests expected shouting.
A fight.
A dramatic confrontation.
Instead...
The stranger smiled sadly.
"I didn't come to take my wife back."
He reached into his pocket and placed a sealed envelope on the nearest table.
"I came..."
"...to return the life she sacrificed to save mine."
Nathan frowned.
"What does that mean?"
The man looked directly at Sophia.
"You never told him, did you?"
Sophia broke down in tears.
"No..."
"I couldn't."
The stranger nodded.
"Then I guess it's finally time everyone learns the truth."
He slowly opened the envelope.
Inside wasn't another marriage certificate.
It was a DNA report...
Showing that Nathan Crawford's biological father...
...wasn't the billionaire who raised him.
It was the man standing in front of him.

The ballroom exploded into chaos.
And Nathan realized the woman he had planned to marry had been hiding a secret far bigger than a forgotten marriage... a secret that would rewrite his entire identity forever.
