CHAPTER 7 – The Assassins Arrived Before Sunset

Nathan barely had time to wipe the tears from his face before the front window of the flower shop exploded.
CRASH!
Glass rained across the floor.
His mother screamed as a bullet shattered a vase inches from where she had been standing.
"DOWN!" Nathan shouted.
He threw her behind the counter just as two masked men burst through the front door.
One carried a silenced pistol.
The other held a hunting knife.
Neither said a word.
They had only one mission.
Leave no witnesses.
Nathan grabbed a heavy metal watering can and hurled it at the gunman. The weapon flew across the room as the attacker stumbled backward.
The second man lunged.
Nathan blocked the knife with his forearm.
Pain shot through his body as the blade sliced his sleeve.
Before the killer could strike again, someone crashed through the back entrance.
Adrian.
Still weak from the hospital, he swung a steel shovel with everything he had.
The blade slammed into one attacker's shoulder.
"Run!" Adrian shouted.
Nathan grabbed his mother and rushed through the greenhouse behind the shop.
Flowers and shattered glass flew everywhere as bullets ripped through the wooden walls.
They reached an old pickup truck.
The engine roared to life.
Just as they sped away, the flower shop erupted in flames.
Nathan watched in horror through the rearview mirror.
His mother's entire life was disappearing in fire.
She whispered one sentence that chilled him to the bone.
May you like
"They're not trying to silence us..."
"They're trying to destroy every piece of evidence."
