Chapter 5 - THE MOTHER'S SECRET

With Dr. Thorne locked in the basement, the clock was ticking down fast. Marcus would soon realize Thorne hadn't reported back.

In the safety of the master suite, Elena sat with Luca as he aggressively stretched his leg muscles, wincing through intense pain.

"There's something else you need to know," Elena said, her voice trembling. "About why I came here."

Luca stopped his exercises, looking up at her. "What do you mean?"

"It wasn't an accident that I applied for the housekeeper position three weeks ago," she confessed, tears welling in her eyes. "A man contacted me in the city. He sent me an anonymous package containing your picture, a map of this estate, and a letter saying my child's father was being murdered slowly in this house."

Luca’s eyebrows furrowed. "An anonymous package? Who sent it?"

"I don't know," Elena said. "The letter said if I wanted Maya to have a future, I had to come here and see the truth for myself. Whoever sent it knew Maya was your daughter before you or I even realized it."

Luca’s mind raced. If Marcus didn't send it, and Thorne didn't send it, there was a third player in the game—a shadow operator manipulating the pieces from behind the curtain.

Suddenly, the house alarm blared. Red emergency lights flashed across the ceilings, and the deafening roar of sirens shattered the quiet evening.

Tommy ran into the room, out of breath, his face pale. "Mr. Luca! There are armed men coming through the front gate! They aren't your normal guards—they're dressed in black tactical gear!"

Marcus had realized the trap was sprung. He was no longer trying to kill Luca quietly; he was moving to liquidate the entire estate.
