Chapter 6 - THE NIGHT OF THE RED GLASS

The compound descended into utter chaos. Rain lashed against the high windows as gunfire erupted near the main gatehouse. Marcus’s mercenaries, armed with silenced automatic rifles, breached the outer perimeter, moving systematically toward the main house.
Arthur and three loyal guards took positions in the grand foyer, returning fire across the marble floor. Glass shattered, and ancient artwork was shredded by a hail of bullets.
"Get Elena and Maya to the panic room!" Luca commanded Arthur over the tactical radio.
"What about you, boss?" Arthur shouted back over the sound of gunfire.
"I'm done hiding in the dark," Luca said.
In the study, Luca stood up fully. His legs were weak, his balance uncertain, but rage gave him a terrifying strength. He opened the antique display case behind his desk, reaching past the old trophies to pull out a custom matte-black Colt .45—the weapon he hadn't fired since the day he was poisoned.
He racked the slide, chambering a round.
Down the hallway, two mercenaries moved cautiously toward the master wing. They expected to find a helpless invalid in a wheelchair.
As the first mercenary rounded the corner, Luca stepped out from the shadow of an archway. Standing tall, his eyes cold as ice, he fired twice. The shots were precise, striking the mercenary in the chest. Before the second man could raise his rifle, Luca pivoted, grabbed the barrel, twisted it downward, and drove his elbow hard into the man's jaw, sending him crashing to the floor.
Luca stood over the unconscious mercenary, breathing heavily. His legs held firm. The beast was fully awake.

He pressed his radio button. "Arthur, report."
"They've surrounded the east wing!" Arthur’s voice was panicked. "Marcus is here himself! Boss... he's got Maya!"
