Chapter 13 - The Bloodline Truth Headline: "The DNA Test That Shattered Everything She Believed About Her Family Alliance!"

The victory over Victor Vance and the neutralizing of Grant’s prison scheme brought a wave of quiet over the Whitaker Estate. But inside my heart, a strange tension was growing.
Ever since Noah revealed that his mother was Arthur Sterling's sister, making us cousins, a deep part of me was relieved to have family—yet another part of me felt confused. The intense, protective chemistry between us, the silent lingering glances, the undeniable magnetic pull whenever he entered a room... it felt far deeper than familial bond.
Late one evening, while Noah was reviewing port logs in his study, I brought him a glass of scotch.
"You're working late again," I said softly, sitting on the corner of his desk.
Noah looked up, his grey eyes searching mine. "The European ports are expanding our shipping routes. But you didn't come in here to talk about logistics, Emma."
I took a deep breath, pulling an envelope from my pocket. "I received the formal genealogical clearance from our estate attorneys today for the corporate merger. They ran a mandatory DNA heritage match to clear the family trust assets."
Noah paused, setting his pen down. "And?"
I opened the document and handed it to him. "Noah... your mother Elena wasn't Arthur Sterling’s biological sister."
Noah froze. He looked down at the official genetic lab report.
"Elena was adopted by my grandparents when she was three years old," I explained, my voice barely a whisper. "There is zero shared biological DNA between us. None."
Noah stared at the paper for a long, silent moment. The heavy weight of a secret he had carried for years seemed to shift into something entirely new. He stood up slowly, walking around the desk until he was standing right in front of me.
"Does that displease you, Emma?" Noah asked, his voice low, gravelly, and suddenly thick with an unspoken intensity that made my heart hammer against my ribs.
"I... I thought you protected me because of a family obligation," I stammered, looking up into his dark eyes.
Noah reached out, his long fingers gently cupping the side of my face. His thumb brushed over my lower lip with deliberate warmth.
May you like
"I protected you in the rain because I saw a warrior dying for a coward," Noah murmured, his gaze dropping to my lips before rising back to my eyes. "I didn't bring you into my home because of ancient bloodlines, Emma. I brought you here because from the second I held you in my arms on that sidewalk... my world began and ended with you."
My breath hitched. The cold wall of protection I had built around my heart after Grant's betrayal dissolved instantly in the heat of his words.
