Chapter 7 - The Unraveling of Vanessa Cole Headline: "The Mistress Thought She Won the Jackpot—Until She Discovered the Final Trap!"

When a ship sinks, the rats are always the first to jump off.
Following the public humiliation at the Hyatt Gala, Vanessa Cole realized that her dream of being a wealthy tech wife was officially dead. Grant was completely broke, facing millions of dollars in counter-lawsuits, and mentally unraveling.
The next evening, inside their messy hotel room, Vanessa was frantically packing three large designer suitcases.
"Where do you think you're going?" Grant demanded, standing in the doorway, smelling strongly of gin, his eyes bloodshot.
"I'm leaving you, Grant," Vanessa said, zipped up a suitcase with a sharp drag of the zipper. "You're a loser. You're broke, you're pathetic, and you're going to prison. I'm not going down with your sinking ship."
Grant grabbed her arm tightly, his fingers digging into her skin. "You can't leave me! I spent half a million dollars on you! I bought you diamonds, I leased that Maserati for you, I put you in the front seat while my wife was screaming on the curb!"
"Let go of me, you lunatic!" Vanessa yelled, slapping his face hard.
Grant stumbled back, gasping. Vanessa snatched her purse, but as she opened the hotel room door to leave, she was met by two federal agents in dark suits holding gold badges.
"Vanessa Cole?" the lead agent asked sharply.
Vanessa turned pale. "Yes? What is this about?"
"You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, conspiracy to commit corporate espionage, and tax evasion," the agent declared, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs.
Grant laughed hysterically from the bar. "Ha! Yes! Take her! She stole from me too! She was in on it!"
The agent looked at Grant with utter disgust. "Don't celebrate too quickly, Mr. Vance. Miss Cole spent four hours at the United States Attorney's office this morning signing a full confession and turning over state's evidence against you."
Grant’s laughter died instantly. "What... what are you talking about?"
Vanessa looked back at Grant with a cold, triumphant sneer. "Did you really think I liked you, Grant? Did you really think a thirty-two-year-old woman fell in love with a arrogant, insecure middle-manager? I was hired by your firm's primary mezzanine lender eight months ago to audit your secret offshore accounts. Every time you bragged to me in bed, I was recording you."

Grant collapsed onto his knees, his eyes wide in utter disbelief. "Vanessa... no..."
"Noah Whitaker didn't just buy your corporate debt, Grant," Vanessa whispered as the federal agents slapped the cuffs on her wrists. "He was the one who paid off my legal fees to deliver your complete financial fraud records to the FBI. You didn't just ruin your family... you walked right into a execution trap."
