Chapter 5 - The Master's Return Headline: "She Came Back as a Billionaire Heiress to Destroy the Man Who Left Her to Die!"

The air on the terrace went dead silent. The sound of the waves crashing against the cliffs far below suddenly felt deafening.
"You... you knew my father?" I breathed, my heart hammering against my ribs.
Noah took a step closer, his tall shadow enveloping me. "Twenty years ago, before I took over my family's shipping syndicate, I was a twenty-two-year-old crew captain on a cargo vessel stuck in a Category 4 storm off the coast of Alaska. The steering gear failed. My ship was taking on water. Every logistics company in Seattle refused to send emergency tugs into that storm because of the insurance risks."
Noah’s eyes softened with a deep, reverent memory. "Except Arthur Sterling. Your father personally coordinated the satellite navigation grid that guided my ship out of the eye of the storm. He saved my life and the lives of my twelve crew members. When he died broke and humiliated years later, framed by the Vance family, I swore on his grave that I would honor his debt."
Tears welled in my eyes. The pain of my father's tragic death, which I had locked deep inside my chest for almost a decade, suddenly rushed out like a tidal wave.
"When I found out Grant Vance was using your stolen software to pitch me for capital," Noah continued, reaching out and gently wiping a stray tear from my cheek with his thumb, "I was planning to break him financially anyway. But when I saw him leave you bleeding on that curb while he climbed into a car with another woman... it took every ounce of my self-control not to put a bullet through his head right there."
The touch of his hand was warm, protective, and filled with a dangerous intensity that sent a shiver down my spine.
"Now, Emma," Noah murmured, "it is time for Arthur Sterling’s daughter to take back everything that was stolen from her."
Three weeks later, the grand ballroom of the Seattle Grand Hyatt was host to the annual Maritime & Tech Gala—the most exclusive gathering of wealth, power, and influence in the Pacific Northwest.
Grant Vance, desperate to save his social standing and find a new investor, used his last remaining connections to sneak into the event. He was dressed in a tux he couldn't afford, with Vanessa Cole on his arm wearing an over-the-top red gown.
"Just look around, Vanessa," Grant whispered nervously, scanning the room filled with billionaires and tech moguls. "If I can get five minutes with Senator Hayes or the tech fund reps from Silicon Valley, we can launch a new firm."
Suddenly, the massive brass doors at the top of the grand staircase swung open. The room’s chatter instantly died down to an absolute hush.
The master of ceremonies announced into the microphone: "Announcing the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Whitaker-Sterling Tech Solutions... Miss Emma Sterling!"
Every head in the ballroom turned.

Descending the staircase on the arm of Noah Whitaker was me. I wore a floor-length emerald green silk gown that hugged my restored figure, with a diamond necklace sparkling against my collarbone. My hair fell in soft, dark waves over my shoulders. I carried myself not like a victim, but like a monarch reclaiming her throne.
Grant’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers and shattered on the polished floor. "Emma...?" he gasped, his jaw hanging open in utter shock.
