Chapter 16 - The Mastermind Behind the Glass Headline: "The Board Chairman Thought He Was Clean—Until Her Algorithm Exposed His 15-Year Crime!"

With Victor Vance shot and arrested, and Grant facing solitary confinement in Pelican Bay, the final threads of the conspiratorial network were almost unraveling.

However, one last mystery remained. Who had tipped off Victor Vance about Arthur Sterling’s original software patents fifteen years ago? Grant’s father hadn't been smart enough to navigate the technical legalities alone.

The answer came from the code itself.

Inside my private lab at Whitaker-Sterling Headquarters, I ran a deep forensic sweep of the legacy code archive using an updated version of the Sterling Engine. The algorithm traced every administrative access log going back to 2011.

A single master password had overwritten Arthur Sterling’s original signature three days before his mysterious heart attack.

The administrative handle belonged to Chairman Harrison—the respected senior chairman of Vance Logistics who had acted as a neutral mediator during Grant's termination.

My eyes widened in disgust. "It was Harrison all along..."

"Harrison was Arthur's trusted attorney," Noah said, standing behind my chair, his hands resting on my shoulders. "He sold out your father to Victor Vance in exchange for a eight-percent permanent royalty in Vance Logistics."

"And he thought he got away with it," I whispered, a cold determination hardening inside me. "He sat at that boardroom table, pretended to pity me, and watched Grant steal my work."

Two hours later, Chairman Harrison was sitting in his oceanfront villa in Mercer Island, packing a leather duffel bag with gold bars and bearer bonds, preparing to flee to Dubai.

The glass patio doors slid open.

Harrison whipped around, pulling a small derringer pistol from his pocket. But he stopped dead when he saw Noah Whitaker step into the room, flanked by four armed federal agents and the Chief of Police.

"Planning a trip, Chairman?" I asked, stepping out from behind Noah.

Harrison’s face turned gray. "Emma... I... I was forced into it! Victor threatened my family fifteen years ago!"

"Save it for the grand jury, Harrison," I said, tossing a heavy folder onto his desk. "This folder contains every offshore account you used to hide your eight-percent royalty. The state attorney has already filed asset forfeiture papers. By tomorrow morning, your Mercer Island villa, your yachts, and your bank accounts will belong to the Arthur Sterling Memorial Fund."

Harrison dropped his gun, collapsing into his leather chair, weeping like a child as the officers slapped steel cuffs on his wrists.
