Chapter 4 - The Mastermind Behind the Glass Headline: "The Husband Bragged About His Brilliance, Never Knowing His Wife Wrote Every Line of Code!"

By the end of the second week, Grant Vance's life was in absolute ruin, but his obsession with saving his vanity made him dangerous.
Driven out of his corporate empire and evicted from the penthouse apartment, Grant had moved into a high-end luxury hotel suite with Vanessa Cole, using the last of his remaining personal credit lines. Vanessa, realizing that the golden goose she had seduced was rapidly turning into an impoverished convict, began demanding answers.
"You told me you were going to be a multi-millionaire by Friday!" Vanessa screamed, hurling a silk throw pillow across the hotel room. "Now my credit cards are being audited, the silver Maserati was towed from the harbor lot, and your name is trash in every tech journal in Seattle!"
Grant was standing at the mini-bar, pouring his fourth glass of scotch before noon. "Shut up, Vanessa! Just shut up! It's temporary! My lawyers are filing an emergency injunction to claim thirty percent of the Aegis code!"
"Your lawyers?" Vanessa sneered bitterly. "Grant, your lawyers dropped you yesterday because you couldn't pay their fifty-thousand-dollar retainer! Noah Whitaker’s legal team is smothering you alive, and you're sitting here drinking cheap whiskey!"
Grant set his glass down so hard the crystal shattered, whiskey pooling across the marble counter. "Emma is the key," he muttered, his eyes wide and unhinged. "She's weak. She's always been weak. She loved me for five years! She was just emotion-driven because of the baby. If I get her alone, away from Whitaker, I can convince her to drop the charges."
Meanwhile, four miles away at the Whitaker Estate—a breathtaking, heavily guarded fortress overlooking Puget Sound—I was living in a world I barely recognized.
Noah had opened his private home to Maya and me after she was finally cleared to leave the hospital NICU. The estate was equipped with a state-of-the-art medical nursery, round-the-clock pediatric nurses, and security detail that rivaled a head of state's.
I was standing on the terrace, watching the fog roll across the dark blue waters of the bay, when Noah stepped out beside me. He carried two silver mugs of warm tea.
"You look like you're miles away," Noah said, handing me a mug.
"I was just thinking about how fast a life can fracture," I replied, taking a small sip. "A month ago, I was counting pennies to afford a crib. Today, I'm staying in a palace, and the man who ruined my father's reputation is being dragged through the mud."
Noah turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto mine with sudden sharpness. "Your father?"
I froze. I hadn't meant to say that out loud. The secret I had carried for seven years suddenly felt heavy in the cool air between us.
"My father was Arthur Sterling," I admitted softly, looking down at my hands. "He owned Sterling Logistics fifteen years ago. He was ruined by a corporate sabotage scheme that drove him to heart failure. Grant’s father was his business partner. Grant didn't just stumble upon me in college, Noah... he knew who I was. He married me to make sure my father's remaining research would never see the light of day."
Noah didn't look surprised. Instead, a slow, dark smile touched the corners of his lips.
"I know," Noah said softly.

My heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean, you know?"
"Did you really think it was a coincidence that my car pulled up outside your apartment building the exact moment your water broke, Emma?" Noah asked, his voice dropping into a thrilling, low whisper. "I’ve been watching Grant Vance for six months. Not because of his pathetic company... but because I owed Arthur Sterling my life."
