CHAPTER 4 – The Wife He Never Expected

Emma couldn’t move.

Her eyes locked on the diamond ring shining on the pregnant woman’s hand.

“My ring…” Emma whispered.

Daniel slipped his arm around the woman’s waist.

“This is Vanessa,” he said coldly. “My real wife.”

The words cut deeper than betrayal.

Noah looked confused.

“Dad… what does he mean?”

Daniel didn’t even look at him.

That was the moment Emma finally understood.

He had never loved them.

Not her.

Not their son.

Not even for one second.

Vanessa smiled and touched her stomach.

“Once we get the key, Daniel’s inheritance becomes ours. You and your little boy can disappear.”

Emma’s fear turned into something harder.

Rage.

She slowly stood up.

“You made one mistake, Daniel.”

He smirked.

“And what’s that?”

Emma held up the rusted key.

“You thought I was the helpless woman you married.”

Daniel’s smile faded.

Suddenly, police sirens screamed outside.

Red and blue lights flashed through the basement window.

Vanessa panicked.

Daniel spun toward Emma.

“What did you do?”

Emma’s voice was steady.

“I didn’t call them.”

Margaret wiped her tears and stood beside her daughter.

“I did.”

Daniel lunged down the stairs, but before he reached Emma, the basement wall behind them opened with a loud mechanical click.

A hidden door.

Behind it stood an old man in a black coat.

Thin.

Pale.

But alive.

Margaret gasped.

Emma stopped breathing.

The old man looked at her with tears in his eyes.

“My daughter…”

Daniel’s face turned white.

“No… you’re dead.”

Victor Hale stepped forward.

“Only to men like you.”

Then he looked at Emma and revealed the final secret.

“Noah is not Daniel’s son by blood.”

Emma’s entire world shattered again.

And Daniel screamed:

“Shut up before she finds out what happened that night!”
