Chapter 9 - The New RegimeThe grand double doors of the third-floor study burst open.

Three Bellini representatives—men in sharp Italian suits with panicked expressions—rushed onto the landing, their hands instinctively reaching for their shoulder holsters, expecting an assassination attempt on the host.

Instead, they stopped dead in their tracks.

Standing in the center of the smoke-filled study was Declan Gallagher. His custom tuxedo was dusted with soot, his hair slightly disheveled, holding an HK MP5 casually in his right hand.

At his feet, whimpering and bleeding, lay Liam Foley—the man the Bellinis had secretly been negotiating with to orchestrate Declan’s downfall.

And standing beside Declan, calm, collected, and completely unfazed by the smoke and fire, was Nora Jenkins, holding Liam’s encrypted burner phone containing every single record of the conspiracy.

The lead Bellini representative—a veteran mob captain named Marco—swallowed hard, his eyes darting from the smoking ruin of the east wing back to Declan’s freezing, lethal gaze.

“Mr... Mr. Gallagher,” Marco stammered, raising his hands slightly in a gesture of absolute surrender. “There’s been... a misunderstanding. We heard an explosion—”

“There was a security breach,” Declan interrupted, his voice cutting through the wailing alarms like a razor blade. He stepped forward, dragging Liam up by the collar of his ruined suit and shoving him roughly toward the Bellini delegates.

Liam collapsed at Marco’s polished Italian leather shoes, gasping for air.

“My second-in-command,” Declan continued smoothly, his eyes locking onto Marco with terrifying intensity, “attempted to sabotage our fragile peace agreement tonight. He tried to frame your delegation for an explosion in my study.”

Marco stared down at Liam, then back up at Declan, realizing instantly how close they had all come to an all-out, catastrophic gang war engineered entirely by the traitor at his feet. Marco’s face hardened with instant, cold fury toward Liam.

“We had nothing to do with this, Declan,” Marco said firmly, his voice dropping all pretense of diplomacy. “The Bellini family honors its word.”

“I know you do, Marco,” Declan replied, a ghost of a dangerous smile touching the corners of his lips. “Which is why you are going to take this traitor back to your district, audit every single offshore account he opened using my name, and hand me his head on a silver platter by sunrise.”

Marco looked down at Liam, who was shaking uncontrollably, weeping tears of pure terror as he realized he had traded one executioner for another. Marco nodded slowly.

“It will be done, Mr. Gallagher.”

Two Bellini enforcers stepped forward, grabbed Liam by his arms, and dragged him screaming down the grand staircase past the terrified, bewildered guests waiting in the ballroom.
