Chapter 4 - The Boardroom AmbushAt 2:15 PM, Reginald bypassed the bank tellers and stormed onto the compliance floor of First Meridian. His face was flushed crimson with rage.

"I need to see Katherine Whitfield!" he barked at a junior analyst.

"She's in the executive boardroom, sir," the analyst stammered.

Reginald pushed past the glass doors of the boardroom, ready to unleash his fury on his meek, dependable wife. But the woman sitting at the head of the massive oak table was not the woman he thought he knew.

Katherine sat flanked by Marcus Bell and two bank lawyers. On the projection screen behind her was a sprawling web of wire transfers, all pointing directly to Whitfield Development.

"What the hell is this, Katherine?" Reginald hissed, looking at the lawyers. "Lift the freeze on my accounts right now! You are ruining my business over a clerical error!"

"Sit down, Mr. Whitfield," Katherine said. Her voice was ice. Not 'Reggie'. Mr. Whitfield.

Reginald froze. "Katherine, stop this embarrassment. Let's go outside."

"No," she replied, sliding a thick manila folder across the polished wood. "Let's review your escrow transfer. You claim you need $4 million for a municipal plot. But this routing number doesn't go to the city. It goes to a Cayman Island trust registered to Chloe Vance."

Reginald’s face drained of color. He looked like he had been struck by lightning.

Katherine didn't stop. She slid a single 8x10 glossy photograph across the table, right over the financial documents. It was the photo from the wine bar. His hand. Chloe’s hand.

"You told me you were stuck at work for our anniversary," Katherine whispered, leaning forward, her eyes blazing with ten years of repressed fire. "It looks like you're going to be stuck for a lot longer than that."
