Chapter 8 - The Hard Road BackThe next three months were nothing short of absolute hell.

With Tessa managing my schedule and coordinating a new, aggressive rehabilitation team behind closed doors, my bedroom transformed into a grueling training ground. Gone were the soft cushions and comfortable distractions. Every morning began at dawn with grueling resistance training, electro-stimulation therapy, and hours of agonizing core work designed to force dormant nerve pathways to reconnect.

The doctors had said recovery was uncertain. Dominic and Arya had called it impossible.

They didn't account for stubbornness born out of betrayal.

By the second month, the swelling in my left foot had completely subsided. By the third month, during an exhausting session where Tessa held my upper torso while the therapist manipulated my knees, a faint, burning sensation rippled down my left thigh—a microscopic spark of feeling cutting through the dead silence of my spinal cord.

"Did you feel that?" Tessa asked, her hands steady on my shoulders, her own breathing ragged from exertion.

"I felt it," I gritted through my teeth, sweat pouring down my forehead. "Again."

Outside my closed doors, the corporate world was slowly realizing that Vincent Corvino hadn't disappeared; he had simply retreated behind the curtain to sharpen his blade.

Dominic and Arya had tried to launch a counter-suit from exile, claiming the prenuptial reversal was signed under duress, but my legal team dismantled their claims within forty-eight hours using the digital audit logs Marcus had authenticated. Stripped of their cash flow and blacklisted from every major shipping syndicate on the coast, my cousin and my former fiancée were forced into silent, humiliating obscurity.

They thought they had buried an invalid. They had only given a predator time to heal.
