Chapter 20 - The Foundation of ForeverThe sun rose over the Maine coast in a blaze of brilliant gold, spilling warm morning light across the wooden deck of the cliffside house.

Maya was running across the lawn, chasing a butterfly with a bright pink net, her joyful laughter echoing over the sound of the crashing surf.
Roman stood on the porch, leaning against the wooden railing with a cup of black coffee in his hand, watching his daughter play.
Celeste stepped out behind him, wrapping a warm wool blanket around his shoulders before slipping her arms around his waist from behind. She rested her head against his back, looking out at the endless horizon where the sea met the sky.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mr. Vascari," she murmured.
Roman turned around, setting his coffee mug down on the railing, and pulled her flush against his chest. He looked down into her eyes—the same eyes that had seen through his lies, dismantled his empire, and ultimately saved his soul.
"I was just thinking about what you told me in the penthouse penthouse years ago," Roman said softly.
Celeste tilted her head, curious. "Which part?"
"That some consequences don't arrive when you make the mistake," Roman smiled, his dark eyes shining with deep, abiding devotion. "They arrive later."
Celeste’s lips curved into a soft, knowing smile as she reached up to stroke his cheek.
"And was the consequence worth it?" she asked quietly.
Roman looked past her toward their daughter running across the sunlit grass, then back down at the extraordinary woman holding his heart entirely in her hands.
