CHAPTER 2 — The Secret That Should Have Stayed Buried

Daniel couldn't stop staring at the little boy.
Every feature felt painfully familiar.
The tiny birthmark behind Noah's left ear.
The shape of his fingers.
Even the way he squeezed Daniel's thumb.
Impossible.
Five years ago, doctors had shown Daniel a death certificate.
They had told him his newborn son died from complications only hours after birth.
His grieving wife never recovered.
She passed away less than a year later, believing their child was gone forever.
Now...
Everything he believed was collapsing.
Emily finally spoke.
"I promised someone I'd never tell the truth unless you found him yourself."
Daniel's heartbeat thundered.
"Who?"
Before Emily could answer...
The captain's voice echoed through the cabin.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we've been instructed to remain on board after landing due to a security matter."
Passengers exchanged nervous looks.
Daniel looked out the window.
Three black SUVs had already surrounded the aircraft.
Emily began crying.
"They're here."
"Who?"
"The people who sold your son."
Daniel felt his blood freeze.
Emily confessed that she had once worked as a nurse in a private hospital owned by a billionaire family.
She accidentally discovered that several wealthy couples had secretly purchased healthy newborn babies while grieving parents were told their infants had died.
Noah had been the last child she managed to rescue before fleeing.
For five years she had lived under fake names, moving from city to city, always looking over her shoulder.
She had been trying to reach Daniel all along...
But someone inside his own company kept blocking every message.
Then Daniel remembered.
Only one person had handled every hospital payment, every funeral arrangement, every legal document after his wife's death.
His younger brother.
The man he trusted more than anyone.
As the cabin door opened...
Daniel expected federal agents.
Instead...
His brother stepped onto the plane wearing an expensive smile.
"You've caused enough trouble, Emily."
Daniel slowly handed Noah back to her without taking his eyes off his brother.
Then he asked one question that made his brother's smile disappear forever.
"If my son died five years ago..."
"...why does he still have the family blanket that only you collected from the hospital?"
The entire cabin fell silent.
His brother's face turned ghost white.
For the first time in five years...
May you like
Daniel realized the greatest betrayal had never come from strangers.
It had been sitting beside him at every family dinner.
