CHAPTER 6 — The Janitor's Testimony Changed Everything

The airport terminal fell silent.
Every camera turned toward the elderly janitor.
His hands trembled so violently that the mop slipped from his grasp.
The arresting agent's face instantly lost its color.
"You..."
The old man slowly removed his work gloves and stared directly at the agent.
"I never thought I'd see you again."
Daniel watched in confusion.
"You know him?"
The janitor nodded.
"My name is Samuel Brooks."
"For thirty-two years, I worked as a maintenance supervisor at St. Mary's Hospital."
The agent immediately interrupted.
"He's senile! Ignore him!"
But Samuel's voice grew louder.
"No..."
"I remember everything."
He pointed directly at the agent.
"Five years ago... I watched you carry a healthy newborn out of the maternity ward at two in the morning."
The crowd gasped.
Samuel continued.
"The baby was wrapped in a white blanket with blue initials."
"D.C."
Daniel felt his heartbeat pounding in his ears.
"I reported it."
"But the next morning..."
"I was fired."
Emily stared at Samuel in disbelief.
"It was you..."
"You were the man who tried to stop them."
Samuel nodded with tears in his eyes.
"I couldn't save the child."
"But I kept something."
Slowly, he reached inside his old maintenance cart.
Hidden beneath the false bottom was a dusty security logbook sealed inside a plastic bag.
"I knew one day someone would come looking for the truth."
Federal investigators quickly opened the logbook.
Every overnight entry had been carefully recorded.
One page immediately caught their attention.
2:17 A.M. — Authorized exit.
Agent Michael Ross.
Infant transferred without mother present.
Witness: Samuel Brooks.
The airport erupted in chaos.
Reporters rushed forward.
Cameras zoomed in on the evidence.
The arresting agent stepped backward.
"This is fake!"
Samuel smiled sadly.
"No..."
"The cameras may have been erased..."
"But maintenance logs can't be changed after they're signed."
One investigator compared the handwriting.
It matched perfectly.
The handcuffs meant for Daniel were removed immediately.
Instead...
Agents surrounded Michael Ross.
His hands slowly rose into the air.
Everyone thought it was over.
Then Michael laughed.
"You people still don't understand."
Daniel frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Michael looked directly at Noah.
"I was never the boss."
"I only delivered the babies."
Daniel's blood ran cold.
"Who was the boss?"
Michael smiled one last time.
"The woman you've trusted since the day your wife died."
Daniel's phone suddenly rang.
The caller ID displayed only one name.
Aunt Sophia.
The same woman who had raised him...
The same woman Noah had called "Grandma" just two weeks earlier.
Daniel answered without speaking.
A calm voice whispered through the phone...
"You've come much farther than I expected."
May you like
"But if you want your son to live..."
"Come alone."
