CHAPTER 5 — The Flash Drive Was Never the Real Evidence

Smoke filled the runway.
Passengers screamed as airport police rushed toward the aircraft.
Daniel shielded Noah with his own body while agents searched every corner of the cabin.
Victor had vanished.
So had the flash drive.
One investigator lowered his radio.
"It's impossible..."
"The airport is completely locked down."
Emily closed her eyes.
"No..."
"He planned this."
Daniel turned to her.
"What aren't you telling me?"
Emily hesitated before whispering,
"Victor never worked alone."
"There were people inside the FBI... inside hospitals... even inside the courts."
Daniel felt a chill crawl down his spine.
"So he'll never be caught?"
Emily looked directly into his eyes.
"He doesn't need to escape."
"He already owns half the people looking for him."
Just then, Daniel's phone vibrated.
Unknown Number.
He answered without speaking.
A calm, unfamiliar voice said,
"Congratulations."
"You found your son."
Daniel's heart pounded.
"Who is this?"
The caller chuckled.
"But you'll never keep him."
The line went silent.
Seconds later, every television in the airport terminal switched on simultaneously.
Breaking News flashed across every screen.
'CEO Daniel Carter Arrested in Child Kidnapping Investigation.'
Daniel stared in disbelief.
"What?"
His own photograph appeared beneath the headline.
Reporters were already gathering outside the airport.
Social media exploded with accusations.
To the entire world...
Daniel was now the criminal.
Emily gasped.
"They're destroying your reputation before you can expose them."
Before Daniel could react, federal agents surrounded him.
One stepped forward.
"Daniel Carter..."
"You're under arrest for the suspected kidnapping of Noah Carter."
Daniel looked at the badge.
Then his eyes narrowed.
He recognized the name.
The arresting agent...
Had signed the hospital paperwork declaring Noah dead five years earlier.
This wasn't an investigation.
It was a cover-up.
As the handcuffs clicked around Daniel's wrists, the agent leaned close and whispered with a cold smile,
"You should have stayed grieving."
"Now you'll disappear... just like your wife."
At that exact moment, Noah reached out from Emily's arms and cried louder than ever before—
"Daddy!"
The entire airport fell silent.

And one elderly janitor, who had been quietly watching everything unfold, suddenly dropped his mop...
Because he recognized the arresting agent as the same man who had carried a newborn out of the hospital five years ago.
