CHAPTER 8 — The Hidden Will

As Alexander slowly recovered, federal investigators searched every Blackwood property.
Secret bank accounts.
Shell companies.
Offshore transfers.
Evidence appeared everywhere.
Yet one mystery remained.
Why had Damien risked everything to keep Alexander alive instead of simply killing him?
The answer arrived from an unexpected visitor.
An elderly lawyer named Richard Collins entered Alexander's room carrying a locked steel briefcase.
"I've waited two years for this day."
He placed the case on the table.
"This was left with me by your father."
Alexander looked confused.
"My father died fifteen years ago."
Richard nodded.
"He anticipated betrayal."
Using Alexander's fingerprint, the briefcase unlocked.
Inside were old documents...
Family photographs...
And one sealed envelope marked:
OPEN ONLY IF MY SON SURVIVES AN ATTEMPT ON HIS LIFE.
Alexander's hands trembled as he opened it.
The letter revealed a shocking family secret.
Years earlier, Alexander's father had discovered Damien's father had stolen millions from the company.
Rather than sending his own brother to prison, he secretly bought his silence and rewrote the family trust.
One hidden clause changed everything.
If Alexander ever died without personally approving a successor...
The entire Blackwood fortune would automatically be transferred to an independent charitable foundation.
Not to Damien.
Not to the family.
To charity.
Emily suddenly understood.
"That's why he couldn't let you die."
Alexander slowly nodded.
"He needed me alive..."
"...but unable to sign anything."
Damien hadn't preserved Alexander's life out of mercy.
He had imprisoned him for profit.
That same evening, investigators discovered another surprise.
The anonymous messages Emily had received hadn't come from a stranger.
They came from inside the mansion.

Someone still working there had been risking everything to protect Alexander.
But who?
