CHAPTER 3 — “The Mistress Started Crying… But Not for Love.”

Daniel’s eyes locked onto Amelia.
For the first time in his life, he had no speech prepared.
No lie.
No excuse.
Just silence.
Amelia’s lips trembled.
“Daniel… please…”
Margaret grabbed her arm.
“What does she mean the baby isn’t Daniel’s?”
The lobby was packed with employees, investors, and security guards. Every person watched as Amelia’s perfect little fantasy cracked in public.
Daniel stepped closer.
“Tell me she’s lying.”
Amelia shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks.
“I was scared…”
Daniel’s voice dropped.
“Scared of what?”
Evelyn’s calm face remained on the giant screen.
“Scared that you would discover she was already pregnant before she met you.”
A wave of gasps moved through the lobby.
Margaret nearly fell into a chair.
Daniel stared at Amelia like she had become a stranger.
“You used me?”
Amelia cried harder.
“I needed protection. I needed money. You said Evelyn was weak. You said you could take everything from her.”
Daniel’s face twisted.
But Evelyn wasn’t finished.
She lifted another file.
“And that is not the only lie.”
The screen changed.
Photos appeared.
Amelia entering a hotel.
Amelia meeting a man in sunglasses.
Amelia signing documents.
Then the final image appeared.
The man beside Amelia…
was Daniel’s own lawyer.
Daniel staggered back.
“No…”
Evelyn spoke softly.
“Your lawyer helped Amelia fake the pregnancy timeline, rewrite your personal assets, and prepare a claim against the Carter estate.”
Daniel turned pale.
Margaret screamed,
“You filthy girl!”
But Amelia suddenly stopped crying.
Slowly, she wiped her tears.
Then she smiled.
“If I’m filthy…”
She looked at Daniel.
“Then what are you?”
Daniel froze.
Amelia reached into her purse and pulled out a small recorder.
“You promised to divorce Evelyn, frame her as mentally unstable, and force her out of the company.”
The lobby went dead silent.
Daniel whispered,
“Turn that off.”
Amelia pressed play.
Daniel’s own voice filled the air:
“Once Evelyn signs, we’ll take the mansion, the company, and the trust. My mother will handle the rest.”
Margaret’s mouth opened in horror.
Evelyn looked into the camera.
“Thank you, Amelia.”
Daniel’s blood ran cold.
Because now he understood.
May you like
Amelia hadn’t betrayed Evelyn.
She had been Evelyn’s trap all along.
