CHAPTER 1 – The Box Nobody Wanted Her to Open

The funeral ended in complete silence.

No one cried anymore.

No one spoke.

As the last guests walked away from the old family mansion, 23-year-old Emily Carter remained alone beside the antique wooden table where her mother's belongings had been placed.

Her grandmother suddenly grabbed her wrist.

"Leave that box alone."

Emily frowned.

"What box?"

The old woman's face turned pale.

"The one your mother hid from everyone... Promise me you'll never open it."

Before Emily could answer, her uncle interrupted.

"It's just old junk. Throw it away."

That was strange.

Her mother had treasured everything. She never threw memories away.

Why would everyone suddenly want one particular box to disappear?

Late that night, curiosity defeated fear.

Emily carried the dusty wooden box into her bedroom.

Its lock was already broken.

Inside were only three things.

An old silver necklace.

A yellowed envelope.

And a faded photograph.

The moment Emily picked up the picture...

Her entire world stopped.

It showed her mother as a young woman...

Holding a newborn baby.

But that wasn't the shocking part.

Standing beside her was a man Emily had never seen before.

He wasn't her father.

He wasn't anyone from the family.

Yet on the back of the photo, written in faded ink, were six terrifying words:

"If they find this... we're all dead."

Emily's hands began to shake.

Footsteps suddenly echoed outside her bedroom door.
