CHAPTER 7 – The Woman Who Refused To Die
The hood fell to the floor.
Olivia stumbled backward, her face drained of color.
"No..."
"That's impossible."
Emily slowly turned.
Standing in the doorway was the woman everyone believed had died months ago.
Sarah.
The woman Emily had called "Mom."
Bruised.
Exhausted.
But alive.
Emily burst into tears.
"Mom!"
Sarah embraced her tightly.
"I never stopped fighting to come back to you."
Marcus reached for his gun, but before he could raise it, armed federal agents stormed into the mansion.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Nobody move!"
Within seconds, Marcus and his guards were surrounded.
Olivia closed her eyes.
"It's over..."
Sarah stepped forward.
"No."
"It's finally beginning."
She revealed a hidden recording device beneath her jacket.
"For six months, I've been undercover."
"I let Marcus believe I was dead."
"I let Olivia think she'd won."
"Because I needed both of you to confess."
An FBI agent connected the recorder to the mansion speakers.
Marcus's voice echoed through every room.
"Daniel never died... Keep him locked away."
"If Sarah refuses to cooperate... eliminate her."
"Emily must never learn the truth."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Marcus collapsed into a chair.
He knew there was no escape.
But then Sarah looked at Olivia.
"There is still one question you never answered."
"Why did you betray your own sister?"
Olivia broke down crying.
"I didn't betray her..."
"I was trying to save her."
Everyone stared in disbelief.
Olivia revealed the truth.
Years ago, Marcus had kidnapped her newborn daughter.
He forced her to help him steal the Carter fortune.
If she ever refused...
He would kill the child.
For twenty-three years...
Olivia obeyed out of fear.
Not greed.
Emily slowly reached for her trembling aunt's hand.
"You were a victim too..."
Olivia nodded through tears.
"I just chose the wrong way to protect the people I loved."
