CHAPTER 3 – The Father Everyone Declared Dead

The mansion fell into complete silence.

Rain pounded against the windows as every pair of eyes locked onto the stranger standing in the doorway.

Emily couldn't breathe.

The man looked exactly like the young father in the faded photograph.

Only older.

His hair had turned gray.

His face carried deep scars.

But those piercing blue eyes...

They were identical.

Her uncle Marcus was the first to recover.

"Impossible."

His voice cracked.

"We buried you twenty-three years ago."

The stranger smiled—a cold, exhausted smile.

"No."

"You buried someone else."

Emily felt her knees weaken.

The man slowly reached into his coat and removed a worn leather wallet.

Inside was another photograph.

The exact same picture Emily had found in the wooden box.

Except this copy had never faded.

He gently touched the baby's face.

"I carried this every single day."

"I never stopped looking for my daughter."

Grandmother Eleanor suddenly burst into tears.

"I thought you were dead..."

"No," the man answered.

"I was imprisoned."

The room exploded with gasps.

Marcus immediately interrupted.

"He's lying!"

"Call the police!"

But before anyone could move, the stranger threw a thick folder onto the marble floor.

Hundreds of documents scattered everywhere.

Bank transfers.

Secret contracts.

Medical reports.

Forged death certificates.

Every paper pointed toward one horrifying truth.

Someone inside this family had stolen billions of dollars...

By convincing the world that Emily's real father had died.

Emily looked at Marcus.

His face had become ghostly white.

"You did this..."

Marcus slowly backed away.

"I can explain."

Then the stranger spoke the sentence that shattered every remaining illusion.

"I wasn't trying to come back for my fortune."

"I came back because your mother left me one final message before she died."

He unfolded a tiny piece of paper.

Emily recognized her mother's handwriting instantly.

"Trust no one... especially the person sitting at the head of our family table."

Everyone turned toward Grandmother Eleanor.

She froze.

May you like

For the first time that night...

She looked terrified.
