Chapter 2 - A Poisoned Legacy

Glass rained down like diamonds. Aria ducked, sheltering baby Leo beneath her body as the mercenaries hesitated. Out of the smoke stepped Lucas, Aria’s husband, holding a smoking firearm, flanked by police officers with their lasers trained directly on Victoria's chest.

"Step away from my family, Victoria!" Lucas roared, his face pale with fury.

Victoria didn't flinch. Instead, a slow, chilling smile spread across her lips. "Oh, Lucas... always playing the knight in shining armor. Tell me, did you tell my foolish daughter where you were three years ago when her father mysteriously died in that plane crash?"

Aria froze, looking between her mother and her husband. "What is she talking about, Lucas?"

"She's trying to distract you, Aria! Police, arrest her!" Lucas shouted, his eyes flashing with a hint of panic that didn't escape Aria's notice.

As the officers cuffed Victoria, she leaned into Aria’s ear and whispered a single phrase that chilled Aria to the bone: "Check the bottom drawer of my oak desk in the study. Look for Project Chimera. Your precious husband isn't who you think he is."
