Chapter 7 - The Trial of Blood and Ashes

Inside the speeding vehicle, Victoria handed Aria a damp towel and a warm blanket for Leo.

"You tried to kill him!" Aria spat, holding the baby as far from Victoria as possible. "You put poison in his milk!"

"I put a harmless chemical reactor in that milk, you foolish girl!" Victoria snapped back, her eyes blazing with fierce determination. "It was designed to turn white milk into bubbling foam upon contact with oxygen to trigger an alarm and force the police to arrest me!"

Aria stared at her in shock. "What?!"

"Arthur Montgomery has been monitoring our house through Clara for two years," Victoria explained, her voice softening slightly. "He wanted Leo dead because the child’s legal existence automatically transfers the entire $50 billion global trust to him on his first birthday, locking Arthur out forever. I staged the poisoning drama to get the police inside the house and get you away from Arthur’s hit squad!"

Aria’s mind raced. The drama in the nursery... the maid’s confession... Victoria's arrest... it was all a orchestrated trap designed to expose Arthur’s network!

"Then why didn't you tell me?!" Aria wept.
