Chapter 5 - Whispers from the Grave

"Surprise, darling," Clara purred, her meek accent completely gone, replaced by a sharp, cultured tone. She pointed the gun directly at Lucas. "You really thought a low-level maid could get hired into the Vance mansion without high-level clearance? Victoria was just a puppet. I work for the real head of the Syndicate."

"Who?" Aria demanded, stepping in front of the crib where baby Leo was beginning to cry.

Clara smirked, adjusting her leather gloves. "The person you thought was burned to ashes twenty years ago. The true founder of the Montgomery fortune."

The footsteps echoed down the hallway—slow, heavy, rhythmic, accompanied by the distinct sound of a silver cane striking the polished floors.

Out of the darkness stepped an elderly man with silver hair and a terrifyingly familiar scar running from his eye to his jaw. Aria’s breath caught in her throat. She had seen this face in old family portraits.

"Grandfather...?" Aria whispered.

Arthur Montgomery smiled, a sight completely devoid of warmth. "Hello, my dear granddaughter. You have your mother's eyes... and her pathetic vulnerability."

Chapter 5 Cliffhanger: Arthur raised his hand, gesturing to Clara. "Kill Lucas. Take the baby. And lock my dear granddaughter in the basement until she signs over the family trust."
