Aria whipped around. Lucas stood in the doorway of the study, bathed in the moonlight. He wasn't wearing his usual soft smile. His posture was rigid, his eyes dark and calculating.

"Lucas... what is this?" Aria trembled, holding up the paper. "Why does this paper say Leo isn't yours? What did you do to me when I was in the hospital?"

Lucas took a slow, deliberate step into the room. "Victoria wasn't trying to kill the baby because she hated him, Aria. She tried to kill him because she realized Leo is the sole legitimate heir to the billion-dollar Montgomery Syndicate—the family business your mother stole twenty years ago after murdering your real parents!"
