The woman slowly removed one glove.
On her wrist was a tiny crescent-shaped birthmark.
Emily's face turned completely pale.

She whispered so quietly that nobody else heard.

She had accepted a secret payment to testify against an innocent woman accused of financial fraud.

Emily convinced herself the nightmare was over.

The mysterious woman lifted her veil.
The ballroom exploded into whispers.

Emily began crawling backward across the marble floor.
"You were supposed to be dead!"

Emily looked confused.
