CHAPTER 2 – THE PRISONER WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Graystone Women's Prison was where hope came to die.
On Emily's first day, the guards gave her one warning.
"Forget your old life."
"But I didn't—"
"Everyone says they're innocent."
The steel gate slammed shut behind her.
For the first year, Emily cried herself to sleep every night.
She wrote hundreds of letters to her son.
None were answered.
Eventually...
The letters stopped.
Rumors spread through the prison that she had murdered her husband for millions.
The other inmates hated her.
Until one afternoon.
A new prisoner arrived.
Her name was Rachel Monroe.
Quiet.
Observant.
Terrified.
Emily noticed something strange the moment Rachel unpacked her belongings.
Rachel froze when she saw Emily's face.
"You..."
Emily frowned.
"Have we met?"
Rachel's face turned pale.
"No."
But she could barely breathe.
That night, Emily woke to quiet sobbing.
Rachel was sitting alone in the prison chapel.
"I know you're innocent."
Emily's entire body froze.
"What did you just say?"
Rachel looked around to make sure nobody was listening.
"I heard someone talking about your husband years ago."
Emily stepped closer.
"Who?"
Rachel hesitated.
"My ex-boyfriend."
"He worked for Michael Carter."
Emily's heart pounded.
"He said the boss wasn't killed because of money."
Rachel lowered her voice even more.
"He said your husband found documents that powerful people would kill to keep secret."
Emily couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"What documents?"
Rachel shook her head.
"I don't know."
"But three men met at a warehouse the night before the murder."
"And one of them said..."
Rachel's voice cracked.
"'Blame the wife. She's the perfect scapegoat.'"
Emily felt the room spinning.
For ten years...
She had blamed bad luck.
But this wasn't bad luck.
It was a carefully planned conspiracy.
Before Rachel could say another word...
The prison alarm suddenly echoed through the building.
Guards rushed into the chapel.
Rachel was immediately transferred to another prison that very night.
Without explanation.
Without goodbye.
Emily never saw her again.
But Rachel had left one thing behind.
Hidden beneath the chapel bench...
A folded piece of paper.
On it were only six handwritten words.
"Warehouse 17. Ask about Project Raven."
Emily stared at the note.
She had no idea...
May you like
Those six words would soon expose one of the biggest criminal conspiracies the city had ever seen.
