CHAPTER 6 – THE WOMAN WHO REFUSED TO BREAK

The next morning, Warden Voss ordered Emily dragged into a private room.

No cameras.

No witnesses.

Only Voss and two guards.

The warden placed a document on the table.

"Sign this."

Emily looked down.

It was a confession.

A confession to Daniel Brooks’ murder.

Emily slowly lifted her eyes.

"You’re scared."

Voss slapped her so hard her lip split.

"You have no idea who you’re fighting."

Emily smiled through the blood.

"Then tell them I said hello."

Voss leaned close.

"Your son is alive."

Emily stopped breathing.

The warden smiled.

"But he won’t be if you keep asking questions."

For one second, Emily’s whole world went silent.

Then the door opened.

A young prison doctor stepped inside.

Dr. Ava Sinclair.

She saw Emily’s bleeding face.

She saw the confession on the table.

And she saw the fear in Warden Voss’ eyes.

"Is there a problem here?" Ava asked.

Voss straightened.

"Get out."

But Ava didn’t move.

"I already sent a report to the state inspector."

The room froze.

Emily stared at her.

Ava looked directly at Emily and said quietly,

"Your son sent me."

Voss’ face went white.

Emily’s knees nearly gave out.

Ava slipped a folded photograph into Emily’s hand before leaving.

Emily opened it with trembling fingers.

It showed a grown young man standing beside a courthouse.

Same eyes.

Same smile.

Noah.

On the back, he had written only one sentence:

"Mom, I never stopped looking for you."

Emily pressed the photo to her chest.

For ten years, they had buried her alive.

But now...

The woman they framed was no longer alone.
