CHAPTER 4 – The Woman in Room 309

Grace pulled Emily back and slammed the stairwell door shut.
Ryan pounded from the other side.
“Open the door, Emily! I’m trying to protect you!”
But Emily finally found her voice.
“From who?”
There was silence.
Then Ryan whispered, “From the truth.”
Grace pushed Emily into Room 309, an empty patient room at the end of the corridor.
But it wasn’t empty.
An old woman was lying in the bed, awake, holding a phone.
“I recorded everything,” the woman said.
Emily stared at her.
“Who are you?”
The old woman’s eyes filled with tears.
“I’m your mother-in-law.”
Emily’s heart stopped.
Ryan had always told her his mother was dead.
The old woman slowly lifted her sleeve, revealing bruises.
“He locked me away here after I discovered what he did to his first wife.”
Before Emily could speak, Ryan kicked the door open.
But this time, he wasn’t facing one helpless woman.
May you like
He was facing three witnesses.
And the phone in his mother’s hand was already live-streaming.
