Chapter 4 - Bloodlines and Bullet HolesKai stood frozen in the middle of the luxurious room, his hands trembling violently at his sides. The silence that followed was terrifying. It wasn't the silence of peace; it was the silence that comes right before a volcano erupts and buries an entire city in burning ash.

“Lily…” Kai whispered, his voice dangerously hollow. “Lily is Clara’s daughter.”
“She’s your niece, Kai,” I choked out, wiping the tears from my cheeks. “She’s the last piece of your sister left on this earth.”
Before Kai could speak, a sharp knock rattled the heavy door. The woman in the lab coat stepped into the room, holding a tablet with a encrypted digital readout. She looked pale, her eyes darting nervously between Kai and me.
“Mr. Harrington,” the doctor said softly. “The rapid sequencing from the Boston lab just came through.”
Kai didn't turn around. “Read it.”
“The DNA markers confirm a 99.8% probability of a direct familial relation,” she announced, her voice shaking slightly. “The child is your biological niece. The genetic markers match the archival profile of Clara Harrington.”
Kai closed his eyes tightly. A single tear escaped his right eye, tracing a wet path down his rugged cheek before disappearing into his collar. He took a long, shaky breath, filling his chest with air, and when he opened his eyes again, the shattered man was gone.
In his place stood the Lord of Connecticut—a killer reborn with absolute, devastating purpose.
“Lev!” Kai called out.
The scarred lieutenant appeared at the door instantly. “Boss?”
“Issue a red alert across all sectors. Lock down the estate perimeter. Bring in the full security detail from New York. Nobody enters or leaves Hawthorne Road without my personal clearance.”
“Understood, sir,” Lev replied, turning to execute the command.
“Wait,” I interrupted, stepping between Kai and the door. “What are you doing? I told you the truth! I saved her! I raised her for seven years! You can’t just turn us into prisoners!”
Kai looked down at me, his eyes cold as glaciers, yet burning with an underlying fever.
“You saved my niece, Maya,” Kai said softly, taking a step toward me. “For that, I owe you a debt that can never be repaid in this lifetime. I will build you a palace if you ask for it. I will give you tens of millions of dollars. But you will never leave my side again.”
“What?” I stared at him in horror. “No! I have a life! Lily has a life! We live on Hawthorne Road—”
“You live in a decaying shanty at the end of a dirt road with a broken furnace!” Kai barked, his voice booming across the suite. “Do you have any idea what happens if Lorenzo Moretti’s son finds out Clara’s child is alive? Do you have any idea what those animals will do to her if they figure out she carries the Harrington bloodline?!”
“They don't know!” I yelled back, matching his volume. “They’ve thought Clara was dead for fifteen years! No one knows except me and you!”
Before Kai could answer, the mansion’s heavy emergency sirens suddenly began to wail—a piercing, mechanical screech that echoed through every hallway. Red strobe lights began flashing against the bulletproof windows.
BOOM!
A massive explosion rocked the foundation of the house, rattling the crystal chandelier overhead and sending fine white plaster raining down from the ceiling.
The heavy oak door was kicked open. Lev rushed back in, his gun drawn, blood dripping from a nasty cut across his forehead.
“Boss! We’re under heavy attack!” Lev roared over the deafening alarms. “A convoy of armored trucks just rammed through the front gates! They’re using military-grade explosive ordnance!”
Kai didn't panic. He pulled a silver-plated .45 caliber handgun from a hidden holster under his shoulder and racked the slide with a lethal clack.
“Who is it?” Kai asked coldly.
May you like
Lev looked at me, then back at Kai with a face full of dread.
“It’s Julian Moretti,” Lev spat. “They dragged a tracker off the back of the woman’s old station wagon parked down the road. They’ve known where she was the whole time, Boss. They were just waiting for her to lead them to you.”
