Chapter 15 - The Celebration at the Estate

That evening, we stood on the expansive back patio of the very Sacramento estate my mother had just lost.
The house had belonged to my father, a place filled with complicated childhood memories—some warm, but mostly tinted by the suffocating pressure of my mother’s perfectionism. Now, standing here with Savannah and little Leo sleeping peacefully in his stroller beside us, the house felt entirely different.
The sun was setting, painting the California sky in brilliant shades of violet, amber, and gold.
"Well," Savannah murmured, taking a sip of sparkling cider as she leaned against the stone balustrade. "Technically, this is our house now too. What do you want to do with it?"
I looked out over the manicured lawns and the sprawling oak trees.
"Sell it," I said without a second thought. "Or better yet... turn it into a foundation. A safe house and resource center for victims of domestic and financial abuse."
Savannah turned her head, a soft, radiant smile breaking across her face. She reached out, taking my hand in hers.
"I love that idea," she whispered. "We can fund it through the tech-logistics network. Make it a permanent sanctuary."
"Only if you’re the executive director," I teased gently.
May you like
"Deal," she laughed, leaning her head against my shoulder.
For the first time in my life, the weight of the world wasn't crushing my chest. There were no secrets left to uncover, no hidden dossiers, and no ticking time bombs waiting to go off. We had survived the fire, and out of the ashes, we had built something unbreakable.
