Chapter 8 - The Fall of a FraudDiane rushed forward, grabbing Ethan’s arm. "Don't listen to her, Ethan! She's lying! She’s trying to gaslight you!"

"She's not lying, Mom," Ethan whispered, the last ounce of fight completely draining out of his posture. His shoulders slumped, and he looked smaller, weaker—just a frightened little boy from a rented duplex who had tried to play a high-stakes game he was never equipped to win.
He looked at me with something resembling actual terror. "Oanh... please. If the firm finds out about the trust account discrepancy... I'll be disbarred. I'll go to prison."
"Then I suggest you spend these next two hours packing your bags and calling a defense attorney instead of worrying about your mother's real estate portfolio," I said, pointing firmly toward the front hallway.
Without another word, Ethan turned around. He walked slowly up the grand staircase—the stairs I had walked down countless times with my parents before they were taken from me. He didn't look back.

Diane glared at me with pure venom, her eyes spitting fire. "You'll regret this. You're destroying a good man over pride."
"No, Diane," I said as she turned to follow her son. "I'm protecting what my parents spent their entire lives working for. Get out of my house."
