Chapter 14 - THE EMPTIED VAULTThe heavy steel door of the vault swung open with a pneumatic hiss.

Inside, the climate-controlled room was lined with safety deposit boxes, physical bearer bonds, and the original master hard drives containing the proprietary blueprints of every major technological patent Sterling Industries owned.

Arthur rushed to the central terminal, swiping his master keycard and entering his biometric thumbprint.

The monitor flashed red.

ACCESS DENIED. PRIMARY OWNERSHIP RIGHTS TRANSFERRED.

"What?" Arthur muttered, frantically typing commands into the override console.

Lines of code scrolled across the screen at blinding speed. The corporate ownership structure of Sterling Industries was rewriting itself in real time. The controlling fifty-one percent voting shares—held securely by Arthur’s family trust for decades—were being systematically drained and transferred to an external entity.

The destination account? The Vanguard Foundation.

The screen blinked, and a live video feed popped up automatically.

It wasn't a pre-recorded message. It was a live broadcast from an undisclosed location, showing a dimly lit industrial warehouse. Sitting in the center of the room, tied securely to a heavy steel chair, was Marcus Vance, gagged and struggling against heavy ropes.

Standing right beside him, holding a remote detonator, was Evelyn Vance.

And next to her, stepping out of the shadows with a sickening, triumphant grin, was a man Arthur thought he would never see free again.

Julian Thorne.
