Chapter 1 - THE BLACKOUT PROTOCOLThe darkness inside the Moretti Estate was not a mere power outage; it was a total digital and physical lockdown.

As the mansion plunged into shadow, the red emergency exit signs flickered and died. A low, rhythmic humming vibrated through the stone courtyard—the signature sound of a localized EMP and server wipe deployed by Vincent Moretti’s private security division, the Apex Vanguard.

Richard Thorne stared at his glowing smartphone, watching the signal bars plummet from full 5G to flatlined zero. His face drained of color.

"This... this is impossible," Richard stammered, his voice losing its aristocratic composure. "We have contracts with the municipal grid. We have government-tier exemptions—"

"You had them," a cold, metallic voice echoed from the shadows near the gates.

Vincent Moretti did not raise his voice. He stood beside the medical stretcher where Audrey lay, his hand resting protectively over her trembling fingers. His eyes, cold as obsidian, fixed entirely on Julian, who was now frantically tapping his phone screen in rising panic.

"Dad," Audrey whispered, her breath hitching in the dark. "The woman in the red dress... that's Lydia. She’s the one who managed the bank transfers. She oversaw the underground vault."

Vincent nodded slowly. "Let her watch us dismantle everything she built."

A dozen tactical operators in matte-black gear poured through the iron gates, moving with terrifying precision. They didn't storm the house with guns blazing; they deployed localized signal jammers and neural-frequency overrides, neutralizing the Thorne family’s private security network in less than forty seconds.

Julian’s face twisted into a mask of furious desperation. He lunged forward, pointing a trembling finger at Vincent. "You think you can just walk onto private property and play God? The media knows we’re here! The district attorney is my college roommate! You touch us, and you'll spend the rest of your life in federal prison for kidnapping and trespassing!"

Vincent didn't even flinch. He slowly turned his head, his gaze piercing through the gloom.

"Kidnapping?" Vincent’s voice dropped to a lethal whisper. "You held my only daughter in a subterranean concrete cell for two hundred and forty-two days, starved her, forged her signatures on asset transfer deeds, and drugged her medical records. That isn't a domestic dispute, Julian. That is an act of war."

Vincent snapped his fingers. Two operators stepped forward, grabbing Julian by both shoulders and slamming him face-first onto the hood of the black car.

"Lock them all in the courtyard," Vincent ordered, his eyes locking onto Eleanor and Richard, who were now paralyzed with terror on the mansion steps. "Every single asset, account, and offshore trust belonging to the Thorne family has just been frozen. By midnight, they won't even be able to buy a loaf of bread."

Audrey watched from the stretcher, a bitter, long-denied spark of life returning to her eyes. But as the distant sound of shattering glass echoed from the upper floor, she grabbed her father's sleeve.

"Dad... Lydia isn't running away," Audrey gasped, her voice trembling. "She’s heading for the panic room. And inside that room is the hard drive containing the names of everyone who helped them frame me."

Vincent looked up at the dark, looming windows of the mansion, a dangerous smile touching the corners of his mouth. "Let her run. A trap is only as good as the prey that walks right into it."
