Chapter 3 - THE CONFESSION IN THE COURTYARDBack in the courtyard, the floodlights suddenly roared back to life, powered by a massive Moretti mobile generator truck parked outside the gates.

The harsh white glare illuminated the entire estate grounds like a maximum-security prison yard.
Julian, Eleanor, and Richard Thorne were forced onto their knees by four armed tactical operators. Their designer suits were stained with gravel and dirt, their hair disheveled. The illusion of untouchable upper-class supremacy had been brutally shattered in less than twenty minutes.
Audrey sat propped up on the medical stretcher, wrapped in a thick wool blanket provided by the paramedics. Her color was slowly returning, but the psychological scars of eight months in the dark were written deep in her eyes.
Vincent stood right beside her, resting a warm, steady hand on her shoulder.
"Look at me, Richard," Vincent said, his voice cutting through the silent night air like a razor blade.
Richard Thorne, patriarch of the prestigious Thorne family, trembled as he looked up at the man he had secretly mocked in boardrooms for years. He had thought Vincent Moretti was a distant, distracted father who cared only about his shipping empire.
He had calculated wrong. Terribly, catastrophically wrong.
"You... you can't do this," Richard choked out, trying to maintain a shred of dignity. "We are pillars of this city. The judiciary, the medical board, the real estate council—they all depend on us. If you destroy us, half the economy goes down with us."
"Let it burn," Vincent replied coldly.
At that exact moment, Kael walked out from the mansion doors, dragging a sobbing, disheveled Lydia Vance by her arm and tossing her onto the gravel beside Julian. Kael tossed the recovered decryption drive into Vincent’s open palm.
"Found it, sir. Every offshore account, every forged medical document, and the complete ledger of bribes paid to the psychiatric board."
Julian’s eyes bulged as he saw the drive. "Lydia... you stupid bitch, you kept records?"
"Shut up, Julian!" Lydia screamed, bursting into hysterical tears as she clawed at the dirt. "He was going to throw me under the bus anyway! He told me yesterday that once Audrey signed the final asset transfer, he was going to ship me off to South America with nothing!"
Gasps rippled through the remaining household staff watching from the terrace.
Eleanor Thorne clutched her pearls, her face turning pale green. "Lydia, you ungrateful liar! We took you in—"
"You took me in to be your dirty laundry cleaner!" Lydia shrieked, pointing a shaking finger directly at Eleanor. "You told me to forge the doctor's signatures! You told me to starve Audrey until she stopped crying for her father! I have the audio recordings of every single meeting on that drive! I recorded everything because I knew psychopaths like you would turn on me the second things went south!"
Vincent caught the flash of absolute terror in Julian and Richard's eyes. He didn't need to ask any more questions. The puzzle was complete.
"Dad," Audrey whispered, her voice cracking with emotion as a single tear rolled down her cheek. "They... they told me every single day that you didn't want me anymore. They said you remarried in secret, that you started a new family across the ocean, and that my letters to you were thrown straight into the furnace."
Vincent’s heart clenched with a pain so fierce it felt like a physical wound. He knelt down beside the stretcher, looking directly into his daughter's eyes.
"Listen to me, Audrey," Vincent said, his voice thick with emotion, yet firm as granite. "For eight months, every single message I received from your phone said you wanted space. I searched the globe for you. I hired private intelligence agencies in three continents. The moment I found out those messages were faked—the moment you sent me that six-second recording of your breathing—I stopped everything. I would burn the entire world to the ground before I ever let anyone hurt you again."
Audrey let out a long, shuddering breath, burying her face in her hands as the heavy weight of isolation finally began to lift from her soul.
Julian watched them, his expression twisting from fear into a manic, desperate smirk. "You think you've won, Moretti? You think destroying us changes the truth? Look at her. She’s mentally broken. Even if you put us in prison, the world will always remember that your daughter was an unstable inmate locked away for her own safety. You can't buy back her reputation."
Vincent stood up slowly. The air around him seemed to drop ten degrees.
"Reputation?" Vincent murmured, stepping toward Julian until his shadow completely swallowed the kneeling man. "Julian, you think this is about public opinion?"
Vincent turned to Kael. "Broadcast the contents of that drive to every major news network, medical board, and financial exchange in the country. Let every single person who accepted a bribe from the Thorne family watch their lives disintegrate in real-time."

"With pleasure, sir," Kael grinned, tapping his wrist communicator.
"And as for Julian," Vincent's eyes flashed with a terrifying brilliance. "Let’s introduce him to true, unadulterated power."
