CHAPTER 6 THE BILLIONAIRE WALKED STRAIGHT INTO THE TRAP—BUT THE HOSTAGE HAD BEEN PLANNING HER OWN REVENGE

Damon never hesitated.

"If they want me," he said, "they'll get me."

His mother grabbed his arm.

"That's exactly what they're counting on."

"No."

He looked toward the newborns sleeping peacefully.

"They've spent years hunting my family."

"I'm done running."

Within minutes, Adrian unfolded a blueprint of Mount Sinai Hospital across the hood of an abandoned truck.

"The kidnappers think we're desperate," Adrian said. "Let's make them overconfident."

Damon stared at the map.

"Show me every security tunnel."

Meanwhile...

Back inside Room 203...

Sylvie sat perfectly still with a gun pressed against the back of her head.

The masked man smiled.

"You look calmer than most hostages."

She answered quietly.

"I've survived Damon Vexley's lawyers."

The kidnapper laughed.

"Fair enough."

What he didn't notice...

Sylvie's IV line had already been disconnected.

She had quietly removed the needle nearly ten minutes earlier.

The hospital bed looked ordinary.

It wasn't.

Beneath the blanket lay a stainless-steel surgical clamp she had hidden after giving birth.

Every second...

She waited.

Every breath...

She counted.

Outside, Damon entered through an underground service corridor disguised as a hospital maintenance worker.

No bodyguards.

No security team.

Only Adrian communicating through a tiny earpiece.

"Third hallway."

"Clear."

"Two guards near the elevators."

"Copy."

Damon quietly moved closer.

Then...

His phone vibrated.

A text message.

DON'T TRUST ROOM 203.

No sender.

No explanation.

His heartbeat accelerated.

He froze outside the maternity ward.

Something felt wrong.

Very wrong.

Inside the room...

The masked man suddenly looked toward the hallway.

"He's here."

He smiled.

"Showtime."

He grabbed Sylvie—

But before he could move—

She slammed the surgical clamp into his wrist.

The gun fired into the ceiling.

The room erupted in chaos.

Sylvie shoved the man backward with every ounce of strength she had left.

He crashed into the hospital monitor.

Alarms exploded throughout the floor.

Damon burst through the door.

"Sylvie!"

She looked up.

Their eyes met for the first time since the divorce.

For one brief second...

Neither remembered the lawsuits.

Neither remembered the bitterness.

Only the family they had almost lost.

But before Damon could reach her—

The masked man ripped off his disguise.

Damon froze.

"No..."

Standing before him...

Was the chief of hospital security.

The very man responsible for protecting every newborn inside the building.

He smiled coldly.

"I've been waiting for this reunion."
