CHAPTER 7 THE DNA REPORT CHANGED EVERYTHING—ONE OF THE BABIES WASN'T WHO ANYONE BELIEVED

The corrupt security chief escaped through a fire exit before Damon could stop him.

Police flooded the hospital.

Federal agents arrived minutes later.

But Damon trusted no one anymore.

Not after everything he had seen.

His mother quietly handed him a sealed envelope.

"I've kept this hidden for years."

"What is it?"

"The original DNA report."

Damon frowned.

"I already know they're my children."

"You don't know everything."

He opened the envelope.

Inside were laboratory documents dated seven months earlier.

His eyes raced across the page.

Then stopped.

Probability of paternity:

99.99%.

He exhaled in relief.

Until he reached the final paragraph.

Twin A and Twin B are genetically identical siblings.

Infant C shows a rare inherited genetic marker not found in either parent's original medical file.

Damon looked up in confusion.

"That's impossible."

His mother nodded.

"Exactly."

Sylvie stepped closer.

"I never authorized any genetic testing."

Adrian suddenly remembered something.

"The fertility clinic..."

Everyone turned toward him.

"The embryos."

Silence.

Adrian continued.

"What if someone tampered with them before implantation?"

Damon's blood ran cold.

"You think one of our children..."

"...was switched before birth?"

Before anyone answered...

A doctor rushed into the room.

"Mr. Vexley!"

"What?"

"We found another patient."

"Who?"

"A woman admitted under a false identity."

"What about her?"

"She gave birth the same night as Sylvie."

Damon frowned.

"So?"

The doctor swallowed hard.

"She disappeared..."

"...but she left behind one baby."

The room became silent.

The doctor whispered the words no one expected.

"The child has your last name on the birth certificate."

Damon stared at him.

"I've never seen that woman."

The doctor slowly replied,

"According to hospital records..."

"...she was listed as your legal wife."

Sylvie's face turned white.

Someone had created an entirely fake family.

But why?
